Woven Tapestry Workshop

Join us for Bat Haus's first tapestry weaving workshop! In this 3-hour, all levels weaving workshop you will learn all of the skills needed to create your own woven wall hanging.  Beginners and intermediates welcome!

In this class you'll practice & learn: 

  • How to design and execute your woven tapestry
  • How to warp your loom
  • How to do weaving stitches including tabby weave, soumak, and rya knots
  • How to incorporate a variety of fiber weights and textures
  • How to hang and finish the piece

Materials will be provided including a variety weights and colors of yarn, warp string, sticks for hanging the weaving, a tapestry needle, scissors, and paper & pencils.  Bring your own loom, or purchase one of The Weekend Weaver's handmade looms ($40).  

Note: You might not finish the project in the 3 hours of the class, but you will leave with all of the skills and resources needed to finish at home.

 

Instructor bio: 

Jessie Kritt White is a Brooklyn based fiber artist and teacher. She has always had a passion for crafting and currently she practices and teaches weaving, crochet, macrame, and indigo dyeing. Jessie is most inspired when she's near the ocean or surrounded by trees. She is passionate about creating community around crafting and hosts regular craft circles in addition to workshops.
